What Was Left
Sarah Joy Bishop, 2025
Type: Acrylic on linen, framed
Description
What Was Left speaks to domesticity, labour, and materiality. Constructed from fragments repurposed from larger works, the piece embraces rough stitching and visible seams. It resists polish, yet sits inside a formal frame like a queen on her throne, elevating what might otherwise be dismissed as waste. By framing these remnants, the work questions how value is assigned, transforming leftovers into a symbol of resilience and renewal. What is discarded is not without meaning, it can be reframed, re-seen, and reclaimed.
